Kenneth was working at a restaurant and was saving money to buy an engagement ring for Margaret. He bought an expensive ring, but the problem was that Margaret didn't seem to want to be engaged, so Kenneth stuck the ring on her finger. They went home to tell Margaret's parent, and her father told Kenneth that he had been praying for him since the day Margaret was born. Margaret's mother was concerned that Kenneth was an overworker like her father, who eventually died of hard work at fifty. Margaret remarks that the two men were of very different temperaments. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months.
