There were Thai in Bangkok who were very suspicious of Kenneth, because they weren't used to having Americans who were as fluent as he was in the language, and knew the countryside as he did, and knew as many people. The aide believed to have poisoned Kenneth was one of two who were especially close to Pridi, who were often compared to the two figures closest to Buddha. This poisoning apparently led to Kenneth's skin cancer many years later. </text>
